About us
We have two parallel Reception classes. We are very lucky to have very caring and experienced staff who make learning fun.
Transition
The children from our Nursery have a smooth transition into Reception as we follow the same routines and the children know the staff well. Each child from other settings will get an opportunity to have visited our school and met some of our amazing teaching staff! We hold stay and play afternoons during the Summer term to allow parents and carers to come and visit and will be running many parent workshops over the Autumn Term to allow you to support your children further at home.
Baseline
For the first few weeks we will assess the children and get to know them well. We do this by observing the children in their play and by doing more formal assessments such as numbers, shapes and letters. This then informs us as to what provision to put in place for the children. We carry out the national baseline assessments. Information regarding this can be found below.

Tapestry
We use Tapestry to record our observations which Parents/Carers can access online. This has proved very popular with parents as you can see what your child is up to each day in school.
Curriculum

Useful websites
We follow Little Wandle Phonics here at Moldgreen. Please have a look at how we teach Phonics daily to your children using the videos on the Little Wandle website.

Reading eggs is also a useful website for reading and we begin to introduce this in the summer term.
‘Topmarks’ has a variety of games and songs for your children to use including maths and Nursery rhymes.
Class Timetable
Each day the children access a Maths, Phonics and Literacy input. The children read 3 times a week with an adult. The children complete one Maths and one Literacy based task into ther books each week. We access other areas of the curriculum through provision and planned inputs.
Start and End of Day
Registration is 8.45am and Reception children enter school through the front playground each morning. Staff will bring the children out to the front of school at 3pm for you to collect them. Staff will only let children leave with parents/carers or the regular grown up that picks them up. If a different adult is collecting them, please tell the reception staff in the morning or contact the school office by 2.30pm.
What We Have Been Up To
In December 2022, we were very kindly invited to visit the Lawrence Batley Theatre to watch a performance of the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime. It was our first trip out as a year group, and for many of our children it was their first ever visit to the theatre. The children really enjoyed the show and they absolutely loved singing and laughing along. Some of our children were even lucky enough to meet the cast backstage.
