Reading

Once children have completed the Little Wandle Phonics scheme, they continue their reading journey through a bespoke curriculum. Through a sequential and logical sequence of Reading, influenced by Rosenshines principles of instruction, EEF research and the DFE Reading framework (2023), children develop fluency (including prosody, accuracy and pace) and comprehension. Vocabulary and understanding are developed through a weekly lesson dedicated to ‘reading aloud’ whilst dissecting themes, characters and plot points. Specific Reading skills from the National curriculum are developed through the remaining lessons in the week using explicit strategies, varied fluency activities and teacher marking using Blooms Taxonomy as a basis.
