Reception

Reception Staff

Mrs Lucas is a Reception teacher and EYFS Leader. Mr Flaherty works in RL and is a cover supervisor. Mrs Solanki-Willats works in RL all day Friday and Thursday morning. She covers PPA in RM on Thursday afternoons. Mrs. Gallagher has joined us this year as a Support Assistant. In the parallel Reception class, Mrs Mellor is the class teacher. Miss Nichol is the Teaching Assistant and is also in charge of Parental Support across EYFS.

About us

We have two parallel Reception classes. We are very lucky to have very caring and experienced staff who make learning fun. We balance our curriculum with formal teaching sessions and plenty of opportunity for free play.

Transition

The children from our Nursery have a smooth transition into Reception as we follow the same routines and the children know the staff well. Each child from other settings will have had a visit in their setting from a member of Moldgreen staff and will have been on their transition visits to us.

Baseline

For the first few weeks we will assess the children and get to know them well. We do this by observing the children in their play and by doing more formal assessments such as numbers, shapes and letters. This then informs us as to what provision to put in place for the children.

Tapestry

We use Tapestry to record our observations which Parents/Carers can access online. This has proved very popular with parents as you can see what your child is up to each day in school.

Curriculum

We put our planning on the website each half term so you can see what we will be learning in detail.

Early Learning Goals

Your child will be working towards achieving ELG by the end of the year. They will need to be confident with numbers to 20 in order to do this and be able to talk about 2D and 3D shapes in detail. They will also need to know all 26 letter sounds and digraphs e.g. sh/ch/th/ai etc. and be able to write in sentences with correctly formed letters. They will also be expected to read simple sentences independently. Parental support is particularly important with reading and we look forward to working in partnership with you to enhance your child’s learning.

Useful websites

We use ‘Jolly Phonics’ songs to help the children learn sounds and digraphs –see you tube.

Teach your little monster to read –is a useful website which has fun activities to help your children.

Reading eggs is also a useful website for reading.

‘Topmarks’ has a variety of games and songs for your children to use including maths and Nursery rhymes.

Start and End of Day

Registration is 8.55am and Reception children enter school through their classroom door each morning.  Children are also collected from this door at 3.25pm.  Staff will only let children leave with parents/carers or the regular grown up that picks them up. If a different adult is collecting them, please tell the reception staff in the morning or contact the school office by 3pm.
