Ukulele Town Hall

On Tuesday 20th November, a group of year 5 and 6 pupils performed in Huddersfield Town Hall as part of the town's Contemporary Music Festival. The children left school at 12:30 and walked into town where they met with other young performers. Moldgreen joined two other primary schools to create the Ukulele ensemble. Rehearsals took place throughout the afternoon and the children worked with a large group of guitarists and a youth orchestra to practice their pieces. At 5:30 the first of two concerts began and the children performed the ukulele segment of two contemporary compositions of experimental music. In the second concert the children played and sang two ukulele pieces- Budapest and La Cucaracha. They then formed part of the choir and accompanied the orchestra as they played Reach for the Stars. The children behaved beautifully- their good conduct, manners and patience were praised by a number of festival organisers and musicians. They performed with great enthusiasm, paying great attention to the conductors in order to do their very best. The staff accompanying the children were exceptionally proud of the group and would like to thank them for their hard work and team spirit. We would like to extend warm thanks to the parents, carers and friends who supported the school by watching the concert and collecting the children afterwards

Wonder Dome

Recently, we were lucky enough to have the Wonder Dome in school. All three Y5/6 classes were able to enjoy a session in the dome, learning about the Solar System, the Milky Way and constellations with an astronomer.

The Y6 Leavers Play was performed to the rest of the children and staff this morning. The children performed fantastically well and are looking forward to performing it to parents tomorrow!

March 2018 - Book Time

On Wednesday 7th March we were visited by Nicola from Lindley Book Shop. She exchanged World Book Day vouchers for brand new books and we gave away over 350 books. Good day.

On Monday 19th March, we held our rescheduled World Book Day, after the issues with the snow. The children had made a real effort and looked brilliant.

On Tuesday 20th March, four boys from Year 6 took part in the Annual World Book Day Book Quiz. We have entered this for the past four years and improved every year. The boys came joint 8th out of 43 teams, the best we have ever done. Well done boys. Another chance to dress up! The boys took away a free book of their choice for their efforts.

We are also squeezing in an author visit next week on Thursday 29th March for Years 3,4,5 and 6. Books will be on sale for £6.99 and they will also be signed on the day.

The Welcome Centre - Reverse Advent Calendar

We would like to say a huge thank you for dontating so generously to the Reverse Advent run by the school Council - we just managed to squeeze it all into Mrs Szewczyk's car. We were totally blown away by your generosity and the Welcome Centre were amazed with the donations you sent. Thanks to you, many, many families will have food over the Christmas Period. The School Council are pictured below with your donations.

Today KS2 had a visit from author Steve Webb and illustrator Chris Mould.

We had an assembly which included Steve reading sections of his books and telling us about the characters and Chris Mould drawing some images for the school.

The children were able to ask questions and each child who had purchased a book were able to get their book signed by both the author and illustrator.

Thank You to Nicola from Lindley Bookshop for organising this!

Google Expeditions

All the children from Y1 to Y6 were able to experience Google Expeditions today. With the help of 'Google' Daniel and the use of the Google cardboard VR headsets the children were able to: visit space, go inside the human body, walk in World War 1 trenches, visit Australia and go to the North Pole. The children had a brilliant time and learnt more about their theme work using 3D and virtual reality.

Thursday 2nd March 2017

The children came to school today dressed in their pyjamas. They brought their favourite books to school and also some brought their bed time teddies.

The children took part in book activities during the day and were still buzzing about the day before.

Wednesday 1st March 2017

WOW! What a great day!

We were extremely lucky to have a visit from Nicola at Lindley Book Shop to allow the children to spend their World Book Day voucher and take home a free book.

After a short assembly for Year 1 and 2, over 350 children chose a book of their choice to take home. Many children started reading straight away and children even took their books outside to read at play time.

In the afternoon, 4 Year 5 children visited Huddersfield Town Hall to take part in the World Book Day Quiz hosted by Conrad Burdekin.

The children had to answer 36 questions about 24 different books they had been reading. The children had a great afternoon, coming back to school with signed poetry books, a free World Book Day book and free goodies.

Can't wait until World Book Day tomorrow!

Scholastic Book Fair - December 2016

Sponsored walk - Wednesday 5th October

We are continuing to raise money for a memorial bench for Mrs Norris by undertaking a sponsored walk.  All children will take part and can choose whether they walk, run, jog or even dance their way around the course! We want this to be a happy, fun event and as such we would like the children to come to school wearing bright colours this day - Mrs Norris loved colour. Keep an eye out below for photo's after the event!

MacMillan Coffee morning (and afternoon!)

To coincide with our sponsored walk we will also be holding a coffee morning and afternoon on the 5th October. Parents, carers, family and friends are invited to join us. More details to follow shortly.

Bloom and Grow 2016

On Tuesday 21st June, 4 Year 2 children and 4 Year 5/6 children helped Mr Simeson represent the school at the above festival. Year 2 were twinned with Moldgreen Reformed Church to help plant flowers and create further communiy links. Year 2 visited the church and shared work we had sent to each other. We planted the bulbs together in school and looked after them in school and at the children's homes. It was a great event in Huddersfield and many people visited throughout the day.
