We hope you are keeping well. Here is the information you need to enjoy Week 9 of the Oak National Academy work. The work is dated on the web site as the week beginning 22nd June.

 This week’s work is:

Year 3 English Reading

  • to retrieve information using a newspaper report.    
  • To explore the meaning of words using a set of instructions.
  • To explore the features of a newspaper report.
  • SPaG to focus on the use of inverted commas in a newspaper report.
  • To write a newspaper report.

 Maths – Compare capacity and volume

  • In this lesson, we will be building on our work with capacity to compare capacities using the greater than/ less than symbols.
  • we will use our knowledge of reading scales and our understanding of capacity and volume to compare and order different values.
  • we will begin to add and subtract capacities and volumes, including regrouping the values. We will use the partitioning strategy as a process to add or subtract the mixed-units (l and ml).
  • we will be applying our knowledge of capacity and reading scales, to solve problems involving capacity and volume.
  • This is going to be a practical lesson which will involve estimating various weights (mass) and capacities before actually measuring them. The challenge today will be to see how close your estimate was to the actual measurement by calculating the difference.

Foundation –

PSHCE: The lesson is around creating hope for the future – a future that is not based on the colour of someone's skin but the content of their character. English –

  • Reading - in this lesson, we are going to explore the meaning of words using an adventure story.
  • We are going to retrieve information using an adventure story.
  • To explore the features of an adventure story.
  • SPaG To going to focus on pronouns using an adventure story.            .
  • To plan and write an adventure story.

Maths –.

  • To describe positions on a 2-D grid as coordinates.
  • To investigate a problem, describing positions on a 2-D grid as coordinates.
  • To complete a simple symmetrical figure
  • To describe movements between positions as translations of a given unit to the left/right or up/down
